“Art helps us to personify what we envision, grasp the imagination, and transmit our thoughts.”

Creative PROCESS

In my work, everything starts in my head and my heart. Any moment or thing can be a source of inspiration for my creative process.

Once I have the idea inside of me, I start to draw a picture, write about the idea and what I'm going to need. Sometimes I don't need anything more than an old dress and a cloth; other times a path, a tree. It all depends on what I imagined.
Then comes the image take; I usually take several shots, and with these, my editing work begins. In editing, I give shape and color to my image, just as I had designed it.
It is wonderful how little by little the image in my head comes true, and I can see with my eyes what I had seen with my soul.

About
Gabriela Segura

I was born in San José, Costa Rica.
In 2015, I began my studies in photography and realized that this is my true passion. Little by little, I left my former job to devote myself entirely to photography.
Now I am a fine art photographer who uses technology to create the emotions I feel inside and share them with others.

About my artwork

Most of my images are self-portraits because I want my body to move as my mind imagines the subject.

Inspiration

A lot of my work surged from the sensitivity I developed during my father´s disease. He was in a coma for seven years -at this time, I realized life is short, and you never know when our journey will end. So I decided to follow my dreams and transmit all my feelings through art. I love my decision now; I just need the opportunity to show my art to the world.

Artistic trajectory

In 2015 I started studying photography. I had always been fascinated by walking with a camera capturing different scenes, and it began to interest me more and more until I decided to take my first course.

Over time my hobby became a passion. I obtained my degree in photography at EDLATAM, the exclusive Distributor for Latin America of the New York Institute of Photography.

I started researching the different photography categories and became passionate about fine art photography. I took online courses specializing in Photoshop, which became an essential tool to capture my ideas.

I have participated in different international photography competitions to learn from the judges' reviews and criticisms. With this, I managed to take my work to another level and achieve other awards and recognitions.

I am currently starting to work on a mixed technique: photography on canvas + oil painting, which will allow me to create unique pieces.
